John Hankins and Sarah Gill married on 30 October 1783 in Frederick County, Virginia. Prior to their marriage, John served with the Virginia Line in the Revolutionary War. By 1810 they lived in Hopkins County, Kentucky.
John was the son of William Hankins and Jane Sharp. Sarah’s parents are unknown. The only records found to date of Sarah living in Hopkins County are tick marks on John’s 1810 and 1820 census records for a woman over 45 years old.
John probably died in 1833 as his last pension payment was in March of that year. It is unknown whether Sarah died prior to John or outlived him.
