Cova Henry Howard died on 9 February 1931 in Harlan County, Kentucky, at age 73. Henry’s first name was likely Covey, after his father John Covey Howard. But it is spelled Cova on his headstone and that is the only record found to date that has a first name for him.
Henry’s mother was John Covey’s third wife, Mary F. Morris. He lived in Harlan County his entire life. Henry and his wife, Hannah Elizabeth Scott, adopted a daughter named Gladys.
Henry’s will specified that Elizabeth have control and use of his personal property during her lifetime but he earmarked $18,100 to be distributed to several relatives and others after her death. Among those were his sisters Lucinda and Sarah, nephews Henry and Elmer, daughter Gladys, and grandson Bobby. His will also specified that his Wallins Creek property, where he lived when his will was written, go to his sister Lucinda upon Elizabeth’s death.
