Janie Lydia Ramsey was born on 8 April 1889 in Renfro Valley, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, to Joseph Love Ramsey and Glathia Jane Coffey. She was her mother’s only child, but her father had three other children from a previous marriage.
Janie was an avid genealogist and a founding member of the Rockcastle County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her DAR membership was through Joseph’s grandfather, Thomas Ramsey, Sr.
Janie lived in Berea, Kentucky, most of her adult life. She never married or had children. Janie died on 12 April 1998, four days after her 99th birthday, at Sowder Nursing Home in Brodhead, Kentucky. She was buried in Berea Cemetery.
