Feature: Henry Lewis Goodloe
241 Years Ago: Henry Lewis Goodloe was born 10 March 1779 1 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of Thomas Allen Goodloe and Dorothy Waller.2 Henry was 10-years-old when his father first appeared on the Fayette County Tax List in 1789, three years before Kentucky gained statehood.3 He later became one of the early settlers of Hopkins County, Kentucky.4
Rev. W. H. Moore (grandson-in-law of Henry) wrote “A Stroll Through Grapevine Cemetery” in 1909 in which he related information about Henry and his children. He said that Henry “came with his parents from Virginia with Capt. Emerson as leader of a small company and settled where Lexington, Ky now stands.” He added that Henry “came to Hopkins County and settled where Grapevine now stands and reared a large family who were noted for piety, honor and length of days.”5 (*4th Great-grandfather, Hankins)
