So few pictures of my father and his siblings as children exist that even a blurry one is a treasure. This one was taken in front of their house on what is now Kennedy Brasher Road in Greenville, Kentucky.
Standing are Kathryn, Jimmie, and David McCauley and sitting on the ground on the left is their nephew J W Dukes.1 This picture was probably taken in 1932 or 1933. That would make Jimmie three or four years old, David six or seven, Kathryn eight or nine, and J W (who was the oldest in the group) nine or ten.
These are the three youngest of John William and Verda Hankins McCauley’s eleven children who survived beyond one year and their oldest grandchild.
- Aunt Katie said it was J W. When I scanned her pictures, I asked about anyone I couldn’t definitely identify. ↩
